Upon graduating, I was commissioned by the Australia Post Art Department to design several stamp series. This set celebrated Youth Arts Australia. As a young design upstart and minimalist, I wanted to challenge stamp design convention and successfully convinced the Philatelic Advisory Board to:
- remove the currency symbol. As if a stamp would cost 45 dollars!
- the stamps were also Australia's first purely gold and silver series
- to allow the perforation line to move considerably off registration, literally pushing the boundary of the stamp edge so the dance and and music could as a snapshot appear to be moving across the stamps.
Each of these aspects caused a massive stir amongst die-hard stamp collectors. The stamp sheets sold out immediately.
